Operations Development Program
SABIC Innovative Plastics 

March 2008 – Current

 

  • Working on three 8-month projects, in Chemical Operations, Compounding and EHS.
  • Following an intensive training programme, including Six Sigma green belt certification

 

  • Compounding Project: Cartagena, Spain -- March - October 2008
    • Led project to reduce in-lot stops in Xpress© lines, working directly on the production lines
    • Achieved a 40% ILS reduction week-to-week reduction, plus a sustained 25% reduction in ILS
    • Tested and proved a method to blend heat-sensitive additives to achieve more stable production
    • Tested and proved a new method to measure product color directly in pellets. Implemented in the Lexan QA lab.
    • Introduced and changed a number of work processes to achieve faster and more stable line start-ups

 

  • EHS Project: Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands -- November 2008 - June 2009
    • Created computer software to analyze plant instrumentation output in order to identify failing instruments remotely
    • Deployed the software in all SABIC-IP BoZ chemical plants, covering 100% of all critical and SEVESO covered instrumentation
    • Started the move from preventive maintenance to condition-based monitoring on all plant instrumentation
    • Succeeded in reducing the backlog of overdue maintenance in Chlorine from 9 weeks to zero, by using the new software
    • Use of software to determine maintenance needs projected to save over 250.000€ per plant on each turnaround period

  • Chemical Operations Project: Cartagena, Spain -- July 2009 - March 2010
    • Working on analyzing the plant utilities usage and locating possible savings opportunities
    • Current project, work in progress




Intern – General Electric Plastics  (Thornaby, UK)

December 2006 –June 2007

  • Worked in R&D at the compounding plant in Thornaby, leading a quality improvement project
  • Developed the first reliable test for loose fibreglass in Verton® products
  • Achieved the first accurate loose fibreglass measurements in 20+ years of Verton® production
  • Developed a process capable of reducing loose fibreglass in specific grades by up to 40%
  • Developed a process that enabled a 50% increase in production whilst maintaining product quality

 

Systems Administrator – Sistemas e Internet  (Granada, Spain)

March 2003 – December 2006

  • Designed and managed the server software and network equipment used to route Voice over IP communications for low-cost international calls
  • Deployed solutions to small and medium sized companies in Granada – Spain, reducing their international phone bills by up to 75%

Volunteer Work

 

July 2001 - May 2005: Network Operator, WorldIRC

Oversee network strategies, server installations and maintain Channel Services for the WorldIRC IRC network. This includes Unix shell work for the server software, database maintenance and user tracking for the Channel Services interface and a great deal of user interaction in a helpdesk setting. The work is a very team-oriented one, collaborating with techs all over the world in order to keep the network running.
